FACILITY OPERATIONS

How often should an office be cleaned?

Build a schedule around traffic, shared spaces, and the condition you need each day.

Look at use before square footage

Two offices of the same size can need very different cleaning schedules. A quiet professional office and a busy customer-facing space may have different restroom traffic, waste volumes, and floor wear. Start by observing how many people use each area and when it becomes visibly untidy.

Separate daily needs from periodic detail

Restrooms, trash, kitchens, and busy entrances often need frequent attention. Other tasks, such as high dusting or detailed interior glass, may fit a periodic schedule. The goal is to assign a sensible frequency to each task rather than choosing one frequency for everything.

Work around operating hours

Cleaning should support your operations. Review whether daytime service, after-hours visits, or a combination fits the building. Discuss access, areas that must remain open, and drying time for floor work. A day porter may help with touchups in a heavily used building, while a quieter office may need a simpler recurring program.

Watch the results and adjust

During the first few weeks, look for recurring overflow, visible soil, or spaces that need attention before the next scheduled visit. A repeated problem can indicate that the task frequency or scope needs adjustment. Review observations with your provider rather than assuming the entire program needs to change.

Put the schedule in writing

List the agreed tasks, frequencies, and any periodic work in your proposal. Keep a record of changes when occupancy or operating hours shift. Yo’s Eco Services reviews these details during a facility walkthrough so the cleaning plan reflects how your workplace is actually used.
